This Thing Called Time

Time to wax poetic. About time. See what I did there? So many puns, so little... ok, I'm done. 

My daughter turned a year old today. It's hard to believe that in these twelve months, time has flown by and yet creeped along at the same time. Someone told me that the years go by quickly, but the days are long; I couldn't agree more. 

I wish I had more time. More time to spend with friends, to clean the house, to read a book- hey, how about writing?? I am woefully far away from a completed first draft of book 2. Being pregnant, working, and having a toddler leaves me with very little time to write.

If you had more time, what would you do with it? 

Some say that education is the great social equalizer; I beg to disagree. I think it's time. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, 365 days in a year. (Am I the only one who heard the song "525,600 Minutes" from Rent in their heads? If you didn't and you know that song, you're welcome; it may haunt you for the rest of the day.) 

I think time is more like money; you can't exactly buy more time, no matter how rich you are. What time we have in this life is not known to us; we could have decades, years, or months; we must spend our time wisely or, like money, risk running out of it.

I have mentioned in previous blog posts about a writing group I am privileged of which to be a part. We have decided to c-create a digital magazine of sorts. When it comes out, I will let you know. Fantastically enough, the theme of this first edition is... you guessed it... time. I am looking forward to reading my fellow writers' musings on the topic this winter. 

I hope this holiday season finds you with more time and less stress. I hope that you find a nice fire, a cup of whatever you prefer, and a good book or tv show to enjoy. I hope that you find some peace and quiet.

And I hope I actually get some writing done.
